Fast, inexpensive real time
performance monitor for z/VM and VM/ESA.
ESAMON is Velocity Software's flagship performance monitor for
z/VM and VM/ESA. This technology has been well tested, and is
used in the majority of large VM installations. ZMON uses the
technology from ESAMON - but does not contain any of the historical
functions provided by ESAMON in the form of History Data.
With IBM's announced discontinuance of VM/RTM, there is a need
in smaller or less complex installations
for an inexpensive performance monitor
to provide basic performance analysis
functions.
Including over 100 different displays, ZMON was developed for
installations with a need to assess performance "now", without requiring
long term analysis or capacity planning. Numerous drill down features
are provided for in-depth analysis of existing or potential performance
problems in areas such as DASD, DASD Cache, MDC, Storage, Shared File
System, Processor, IUCV, LPAR, and many more.
Features and Benefits
- Easy to Support:
ZMON operates across all releases of VM/ESA and
z/VM. Support for 31-bit and 64-bit is included. Screens such as
"SMART", "EXPLORE", and "OPS" are supplied giving users a sense of
instant familiarity to real time monitor data. ZMON, while based on new
technology, reduces the learning curve to a new technology that is both
easy to use and easy to support.
- Standard
Interface: Based on the CP monitor facility,
installation requires no "hooks" into the
operating system, and no upgrades are required when you install
a new version of z/VM. Today - ZMON, ESAMON and ESAMAP
support all existing releases of VM/ESA and z/VM. This allows
you to maintain a single monitor for use with multiple systems
or images running diverse VM versions. New releases of VM are
supported immediately at availability.
- Complete Display Facility:
Over 100 easily
navigated screens from high-level overviews to detailed
subsystem displays. Displays include statistical summaries, full
DASD cache analysis, SFS analysis, device analysis, Minidisk
Cache, and even seeks analysis - all critical for performance
management.
- Automatic
Updates: Screens are automatically updated to
provide current performance information.
